Do you suffer from an exquisite sensitivity to scrutiny from others? Do you believe you've tried everything or your social anxiety is untreatable? The Social Anxiety Bootcamp may be the program and the time to begin the healing. Learn more below or click here for quick FAQs.
The Social Anxiety Bootcamp is an innovative, comprehensive, and interactive approach to working with people with social anxiety disorder (SAD). Bootcamp combines psycho-educational groups, psychotherapy, and improvisation for those who are ready to do the work. Together, these services will help you achieve less anxiety, allow for more comfort in everyday social situations, manage uncertainty, and let life unfold.
| INITIAL EVALUATION |
An Initial PARC evaluation is required to participate.
The assessment of your history and strengths will help customize the program to achieve your goals and vision–one size does not fit all. After the evaluation and planning session, you will meet with Mark Pfeffer M.S., Director of PARC and decide the unique combination of individual and group services that work for you.
Although most people will complete bootcamps 1 - 3 sequentially, you can enter the program at the beginning of each camp if it's agreed upon during the Intial Evaluation.
| INDIVIDUAL THERAPY |
Bootcamp is primarily a group experience; we strongly recommend that all participants work with a personal or PARC therapist individually. Participants who work with a therapist are more likely to do what is necessary to achieve their goals.
CAMP 1 | CREATE A PROGRAM TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE | 8 SESSIONS
When:
Saturdays, starting March 10, 2012 (Onsite or via Skype)
From 12:30 P.M. to
2:00 P.M.

$75 per person (90-min. group session.)

PARC (680 N. Lake Shore Dr, Chicago IL 60611 - map)
Bootcamp for social anxiety is neither easy, nor for everyone. The approach is helpful for those who tend to procrastinate or who jump into self-help books, yet neglect to "own" a program. Bootcamp uses a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) approach that focuses on helping people change their maladaptive thinking and behavior. Motivation, accountability, and support are critical components of program success. Everyone in the group has social anxiety, which makes for an ideal setting for sharing, practice, and support.
Participate in the process of learning by doing with others--that's the way humans learn to be unafraid. Neutralize toxic thinking and develop relaxation responses for a healthy body/mind connection. Create a written plan to face your fear on your terms. Practice strategies to change ‘fight-flight-freeze' false alarm responses. CAMP 2 |

Mark Pfeffer will be there the first session to welcome you and lead the weekly treatment support group to discuss the application of improv principles to real-life challenges.

Creating a lifestyle that enhances recovery is the purpose of this last camp. Pushing for potential is never easy, especially with social anxiety. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "I must do the things I think I cannot do."
Proving to your brain that you can do those things is a giant step for recovery. Over time, risk-taking exposures produce strong cumulative confidence. Confidence helps achieve goals in the areas of employment, relationships, and education that were previously considered unattainable.
